11 things to do instead of shop Amazon Prime sales
No. 11 will shock you
Omg, it’s Prime Day again?
Ladiessss, last Prime Day was ~ literally ~ in July — back then I wrote about 6 ways to curb your Amazon addiction. So ya, this big week of sales last occurred a mere THREE MONTHS AGO.
Don’t you feel like….sales have historically been used to promote a kind of scarcity mentality? Like, oh, this item will never be this inexpensive again, so I’d better buy it now! The frequency of Amazon’s “big deals” should suggest to you that this is a farce. It’s a good moment to ask yourself: Do I really want/need this thing, or is it the manufactured “deal” that I’m after?
Have you found any success in loosening Amazon’s grip on your life? I’ve heard from a few friends that they do a little more thinking before they Amazon — rather than impulse “Buy Now,” folks are being more thoughtful about how often they consume. All goes to show that you don’t have to quit Amazon (unless you want to brag so often and bore friends to tears about your accomplishments) to use it less.
Prime Day has transformed into an event for online media publications.
See? Everybody wants a piece of the Prime Day pie (which has been known to taste like plastic).
I fall for it every time. Sue me: I love reading round-ups of sales, I cannot help myself.
Show me that Dyson discount, show me the most popular tinted moisturizer that costs $3 less than usual, make some money off the link to the perfect $96 white tee, show me show me show the wireless charger that’s *the best* that can replace the current wireless charger that I never use, give me a gander at the 850-piece Lego Brick Box starter set I can imagine strewn about my home, do let me see the airfryer than can cook a potato in 67 ways, show me the best pillow for side sleepers, show me the best pillow for back sleepers, show me the best pillow for upside-down sleeping bats! I want to see it all!
And yet: Sometimes window browser shopping is all I need. I can often get enough of a high from seeing what’s on sale, or studying what The People deem as a “steal,” and then move on with my life. But, I don’t know, I’d like to think there are better ways to spend my time then clicking through the Most Breathtaking Amazon Prime Beauty Sales.
In great hopes of there being More To Life™, here’s a start to a list of things we might dabble in rather than shop Prime Day deals this week. Please add on some ideas in the comments — lord knows we can use all that we can get to relinquish ourselves from the capitalistic vex Jeffrey Hemorrhoid Bezos paid to contaminate all drinking water.
Lie down starfish style on your softest rug and look up at the ceiling
Browse your local Facebook marketplace if you feel compelled to shop
Bake something new! A cake? Here are a few baked goods that I’ve been lusting after:
Look at the weather app for the next week and then track its accuracy (is it really raining rn?)
Delete all of your unread emails sent before the year 2024
Ooh, also unsubscribe from ~10 sales emails you never open (also please investigate why Tuckernuck won’t stop emailing me even though I unsubscribe every day)
Clean your hairbrush — truly so life affirming
Give your dog a bath (seriously it’s time)
Change the batteries in your TV remote
Write a haiku about your nemesis
Draw a tree (below is how I always go about it; what does yours look like?)
That it. Happy avoiding Prime Day week!

That is a beautiful tree
Have never had Prime. Thought it was ridiculous and I quit Amazon last year. There are plenty of small businesses that we need to support.
Love the idea of drawing and baking. Stay creative!
